Britain Calls for Peaceful Settlement in the Country

Al-Fasher, June 11 (SUNA) - Britain has called on the Sudanese parties that are concerned with the peace process to exert all efforts for achieving a political and peaceful settlement and to sign an agreement for ending the dispute.

In a press statement after his meeting in Al-Fasher city with the Wali (governor) of North Darfur State, the Ambassador of Britain to Sudan, Arfan Siddiq, said that the government of his country is committed to participation in the sustainable development process in Darfur, the move from emergency work to the stage of sustainable development and providing the displaced people’s needs.

He described his visit to North Darfur State as successful and enabled him to meet with the Wali (governor) and a number of the UNAMID officials in the state, indicating that they discussed the situation in Darfur in general, position of the international mission, the remarkable improvement in the security situation and the conditions of the displaced people and their needs.

Meanwhile, the Wali (governor) of North Darfur State, Al-Sharif Abbad Samouh, affirmed that peace and security in his state has become a reality, indicating that the collection of illegal weapons has contributed to return of peace to Darfur.

The Wali (governor) has briefed the British ambassador on the plan of his government for realizing stability and supporting the voluntary repatriation of the displaced persons to their home areas and enhancing their conditions.

He called on the British government to put pressure on the non-signatory armed movement so as to join the peace process.
