Foreign Minister takes part in IGAD Ministerial Meeting in Addis

Addis Ababa, Nov. 10 (SUNA) - Sudan participated in the 69th Extraordinary Ministerial Session of the Inter-Governmental Authority on Development (IGAD), which concluded on Sunday afternoon in Addis Ababa, with a high-level delegation led by the Minister of Foreign Affairs Asmaa Mohamed Abdallah. The meeting took place one day after the conclusion of the IGAD Ministerial Consultation on South Sudan, which was also held in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa. The exceptional ministerial session examined progress in the implementation of the Southern Sudan Conflict Resolution Act Revitalization Document, how to overcome outstanding issues that have not been implemented and deliberation on the best ways and means to advance the implementation of the provisions of the Convention. This came in light of the breakthrough made by the Entebbe tripartite summit, which brought together the Chairman of the Sovereign Council Lt. Gen. Abdul-Fattah Burhan, Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni and President Salva Kiir Mayardit of the Republic of South Sudan on November 7, where it was agreed at the conclusion of the meeting on the establishment of specific mechanisms and procedures to resolve the urgent issues necessary to implement the South Sudan Convention and extend the pre-transition period by 100 days. In her statement to the session, the Minister of Foreign Affairs outlined Sudan's vision towards the critical situation of the Convention, calling for resolving outstanding issues, providing funding and building confidence to ensure full implementation of the Convention in accordance with the parameters of the Entebbe Presidential Summit. The Minister affirmed Sudan's commitment to support a peaceful solution in the Republic of South Sudan and to support the promotion of a stable and prosperous state that meets the aspirations of the people of South Sudan.
