Khartoum, Jan. 11 (SUNA) - The inflation rate in December 2017 rose by 25.15% compared to 24.76% in November, registering an increase of 1.58%.
The report issued by the Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS) indicated that the 12 commodity and service groups contributed to the inflation rate in varying percentages. The food and beverage group contributed by 66.68%, the housing, water, electricity and gas group by 7.05% and the clothing and footwear group by 6.92%, where the household appliances and equipment group by 3.91%, the group of restaurants and hotels by 3.16% and the communications group by 3.14%. The report added that the group of miscellaneous goods by 2.76%, the health group by 1.86% and the culture and leisure group by 1.71%. It stated that the transport group contributed by 1.48% and the education by 0.71% 0.71%.
The report pointed out that the rate of inflation for prices of consumer goods and services in urban areas for the month of December recorded a rise of 21.97 compared to 21.49 last November, at an increase of 2.25%. But in the countryside, the inflation rate for consumer goods for December rose in ten states and the highest increase was registered in West Darfur State 48.27 compared to 42.72 last November and the low rate of inflation was recorded by the state of South Kordofan 40.40 compared with 39.68, while it decreased in five states including South Darfur, North Darfur, Gezira, Gedarif and the Red Sea states at rates of 18.38, 25.67, 20.05, 23.02 and 23.03, respectively.
