Foreign Minister addresses meeting of the African Peace and Security Council




Khartoum, Aug.4(SUNA)-Foreign Minister, Ali Ahmed Karti addressed the meeting of the African Peace and Security Council which was held in Addris Ababa, Ethiopia.
The Minister reviewed efforts made by Sudan to meet the commitments of the Council's roadmap and the United Nations Security Council resolution 2046.

He pointed out Sudan has seriously engaged negotiations with State of South Sudan to solve the disputed issues, referring to possibility of reaching agreeable solutions to all issues.

Karti pointed out the other side is still occupying part of Sudanese territory and supporting Darfur armed movements, demanding the Council tp exercise pressure on South Sudan to withdraw from the occupied territory and to cease support to eh rebel movements, affirming Sudan commitment to settle the disputed issues through negotiation and hinting that the two sides needs some time to complete the negotiations.

Meanwhile, the Foreign Minister held talks with his Ethiopian counterpart, Haile-Mariam Desalegne and discussed with him progress of bilateral relations and arrangements of holding the meeting of the Joint Sudanese-Ethiopian Political Committee next September in Addis Ababa.

Karti also briefed the Ethiopian Foreign Minister on Sudan stances with regard to settlement of its differences with State of South Sudan and expressed appreciation to role being played by Ethiopia in supporting the negotiations.
Desalegne expressed his country concern with talks between Sudan and South Sudan, stressing that Ethiopia wants to see a final settlement to differences between the two countries.

He indicated it is important that the leaderships of Sudan and South Sudan to work speed up efforts to solve the point of differences to pave way for final settlement.
