Meetings of Sudanese-Ethiopian Higher Economic Committee Begin

Khartoum, Feb. 28 (SUNA) - Talks of the Joint Sudanese - Ethiopian higher economic committee started Thursday at Friendship Hall in Khartoum.

The Sudanese side was headed by  the Vice-President of the Republic,  Dr. Osman Mohamed Yousef Kibir, while the Ethiopian side was chaired by the Ethiopian Deputy Prime Minister, Demik Mikonen.

Kibir affirmed in his speech before the meeting that the relations between Sudan and Ethiopia are eternal and historic, pointing  out that it is high time to accelerate work to achieve trade and economic integration between the two countries in the areas of investment, industry and agriculture.

The Vice - President has stressed necessity to settle border demarcation issue between Sudan and Ethiopia and to render the joint border as a passage of integration, cooperation and the exchange of common benefits.

The Ethiopian Deputy Prime Minister,  Demik Mikonen, from his part, has reiterated the commitment to exert efforts to strengthen relations between the two countries to be as a model to be followed in the region and all the African continent.

Mikonen hailed Sudan positive role to maintain security and stability in the region and emphasized the confidence of Ethiopia in the ability of the government of Sudan to overcome the current economic crisis as quickly as possible.

He praised the Ethiopian - Sudanese cooperation in achieving peace in South Sudan  State..
