Ministry of Agriculture Undersecretary assures farmers on agricultural fuel availability

Khartoum, July 21 (SUNA) – The Undersecretary of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry Babiker Osman has assured the farmers that the amounts of fuel allocated to agriculture would not be used for any other purpose.

The amount of fuel spent in the preparation phase during the months of May and June totaled 236,000 cubic meters, of which about 53,000 cubic meters alloted for the rainfed sector and 172,480 cubic meters for the irrigated sector, revealing existence of a shortage of seeds.

Osman pointed out that the shortage of improved seeds amounted to more than 30%, revealing that the farmers cover those areas by improved seeds of their own production, adding that country imports most of the seeds for oil grains, expressing his regret on importing most of the seeds for agricultural production, especially horticultural seeds.

The agricultural season plan 2019-2020 aims to cultivate 49 million feddans in field crops in all states of Sudan.

It is to be recalled that Sudan possesses an agricultural area of ​​200 million feddans.
