Rate of inflation increases significantly in January

Khartoum, February 13 (SUNA) - The inflation rate for January 2020 increased significantly to 64.28% comparing to 57.01% in December. The press release issued by the Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS) attributed the increase in the inflation rate to the increase in the prices of the food and beverage group, particularly the prices of bread, cereals, dairy, cheese, eggs and sugar, in addition to the prices of cars, spare parts and transportation fare services. The inflation rate in the urban areas was 56.71% in January comparing to 50.34% in December 2019, while the rate of inflation in the rural areas reached 69.96% in January comparing to 61.64% in December 2019.
