Khartoum, Jan.24 (SUNA) - The Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), in collaboration with the European Delegation and the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) will hold a Media Day Today, Sunday, to mark the handing over of supplies procured within the framework of the EU-IGAD COVID-19 Response Project to the Government of Sudan.

 Statement issued by IGAD, on Sunday pointed out that the event will be held on 24 January 2021 at IGAD Venue.

The statement said the Personal Protective Equipment, the COVID test kits, a mobile lab and an ambulance aimed at being put in use at cross border areas will be officially handed to the Ministry of Health of Sudan in the presence of the Minister of Health Dr. Osama Abdelraheem

“The EU allocated a Euros 60 million package to help tackle the health and socio-economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, in support of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) in its mandate to coordinate national responses to the COVID-19 pandemic in the Horn of Africa” the statement indicated.

It said the programme, further focuses on vulnerable groups, including migrants, refugees, internally displaced persons, and cross-border communicates, including more than euro 13 million worth of medical supplies and equipment, in addition to the

Provision of health responses, WASH services, prevention of gender-based violence and risk communication

“The project also helps ensure borders and critical supply chains are safe for trade and promote digital solutions to monitor the crisis “the statement said.

 The project aims to support more than 1 million people across the region. Given the multiple countries and complex nature of the project, implementation arrangements include direct financing to UNOPS to manage the programme with implementing partners – IGAD, International Organization for Migration (IOM), and The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF).
