Khartoum, Feb. 5 (SUNA) – The Undersecretary of the Minister of Justice, Maulana Siham Osman yesterday signed a memorandum of understanding with the International Foundation for Electoral Systems, for the provision of technical support to build a strong foundation for the upcoming democratic election process.
The Ministry’s Undersecretary expressed aspiration to start cooperation with the organization, stressing the importance of organizing democratic elections as a basic goal of the transitional government.
She noted that the signing of the MoU is one of basic steps for the building of a strong foundation for the upcoming democratic election process, pointing that the MoU included terms of cooperation with the Ministry of Justice, of which the most important is the provision of technical support for the drafting of the Election Commission bill, supporting the organization of elections, resolving disputes, and ensuring the inclusiveness and integrity of the electoral process.
The International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES), based in Washington US, is an international, non-profit organization founded in 1987, to help develop and provides assistance and support for elections in new and emerging democracies, and to providing consultations to international community organizations and governmental and private institutions on how to build and protect democracy.
The (IFES) has experience in providing technical support that serves the development of the parties concerned with organizing and monitoring elections that ensure integrity, transparency and the participation of all groups that have the right of voting in the electoral process, in addition to its work since 1987 in more than 145 countries, including Sudan and South Sudan.
