Khartoum, Feb. 20 (SUNA) – The Foreign Minister, Mariam Al-Saddiq, received in her office on Saturday the envoy of the African Union, Mohamed Al-Hassan Ould Labat, and the African Union’s Special Representative to Sudan, Mohamed Belaiche.

Labat conveyed to the Foreign Ministry a message from the Chairperson of the African Union’s Commission, Moussa Faki, dealing with reducing the tension between Sudan and neighboring Ethiopia, ways to enhance success of the transitional period and aspects of cooperation and coordination between Sudan and the African Union Commission.

 The Foreign Minister has clarified Sudan position and its keenness on the strategic relations with neighboring countries, especially neighboring Ethiopia, noting that the Sudanese Foreign Ministry underscores the dialogue and negotiation on concluding a binding agreement on the Renaissance Dam.

The Minister affirmed Sudan commitment to the directives and decisions of the African Union regarding the inherited borders, as well as acceptance of the report of African experts on the Renaissance Dam, stressing that the Sudanese people are united now more than ever regarding their sovereignty over all their lands and national security.

The Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Mohamed Sharif, who attended the meeting, has affirmed importance of the active existence of Sudanese employees in the African Union, asserting Sudan commitment to fulfill its obligations, referring to importance of the serious dealing with Sudan files at the organization, especially the economic and agricultural files.

The African Union’s envoy, Mohamed Al-Hassan Labat, called for alleviating the tension between Sudan and Ethiopia, indicating that the military solution will not be in the benefit of any of the two countries.
