Khartoum, May 11 (SUNA) - Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General to Sudan and Head of United Nations Integrated Transition Assistance Mission in Sudan (UNITAMS) Mr. Volker Perthes met today in his office with a delegation of the women agenda initiative for the coming session of peace negotiations in Juba.
The delegation presented a copy of the document signed by 26 political and civil society organizations, calling for inclusion of women's rights in future peace agreements, and the expansion of women's political participation in the negotiation.
Mr. Perthes welcomed the delegation and stressed the need for women to participate actively in negotiations to achieve peace, affirming support to the women agenda.
He pointed out that the most important task ahead of them now is to assist Sudan and its people in the democratic transition through the constitution, elections, preparation for peace processes and mobilization of international aid, stressing that without participation of women there will be no real peace and democratic transformation.
