Khartoum, Aug. 10 (SUNA) - The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Mariam Al-Sadiq Al-Mahdi, met in her office here today with the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC), Karim Khan.

The Minister welcomed the visit of the ICC Prosecutor and congratulated him on assuming his duties as Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court, affirming support of the Sudan of the revolution to the ICC and its keenness on the independence of the court to carry out its role in the enforcement of international law.

Ms. Al-Mahdi emphasized cooperation with the ICC to bring  justice for the victims of Darfur war, expressing readiness of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to work to facilitate its tasks in accordance with the terms of the memorandum of understanding to achieve common goals.

 The Minister of Foreign Affairs indicated that the Council of Ministers decided to extradite those wanted by the ICC and approved bill on Sudan’s accession to the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court, and the two matters would be presented in a joint meeting of the Sovereignty Council and the Council of Ministers for ratification.

For his part, the Prosecutor of the ICC affirmed his keenness to cooperate with Sudan in order to achieve justice, and thanked the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for its cooperation and facilitating the tasks of the court.

He also called for continuation of joint work with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to put in place the necessary measures to assist the ICC, expressing appreciation for the government's recent steps, which undoubtedly will accelerate the processes of achieving justice for the victims.
