Khartoum, Sept. 16 (SUNA) - The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has welcomed the presidential statement adopted by the United Nations Security Council on Wednesday, September 15, 2021, regarding the Renaissance Dam crisis, which reflects the Council’s concern with this very important issue and its keenness to find a solution to it, in order to avoid its repercussions on security and peace in the region. .
The ministry expressed its conviction that the approved draft presidential statement was balanced and taking into account the interests of the three parties.
The ministry stressed that the adoption of the presidential statement reflects the level of flexibility shown by the Sudanese delegation in positive interaction with all parties concerned with negotiations on it, which reflects Sudan's keenness to address the parties' concerns and preserve their interests.
The ministry also expressed its hope that the adoption of the statement would prompt the three parties to resume negotiations, under the umbrella of the African Union, and according to a new methodology and concrete political will that lead the parties to sign a binding agreement on filling and operating the Renaissance Dam, taking into account the interests of the three parties.
In this regard, the Ministry reiterated Sudan’s readiness to engage constructively in any process that leads to the resumption of negotiations between the three parties under the umbrella of the African Union that makes the parties reach a binding agreement on filling and operating the Renaissance Dam, in accordance with the fifth paragraph of the statement, which gives the observers a facilitating role in the negotiation process.
