Belgrade, Oct. 11 (SUNA) – The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Mariam Al-Saddiq Al-Mahdi, pointed out that there are challenges facing the countries of the South in various fields, including the strengthening of democracy, achieving sustainable development, economic recovery and the welfare for their people.

At a press conference she held in Belgrade Airport on Monday, the minister pointed to the role of Sudan in establishing the Non-Aligned Movement and its participation in its first founding conferences in Bandung in 1955 and in Belgrade in 1961, within the framework of Sudan commitment and keenness to support the issues of liberation, protect the interests of developing and less developing countries and to ensure their stability and development.

Dr. Mariam is currently participating in the celebrations of the 60th anniversary for the foundation of the Non-Aligned Movement, during October 11-12, 2021, in the Serbian capital, Belgrade.

Sudan participation in the conference is aimed to renewing its commitment to the principles on which the movement was founded and working to strengthen its mechanisms in addressing the issues facing the world.

The celebration is witnessing wide participation of the member states and the regional and international organizations.
