Khartoum, Oct. 11 (SUNA) – Member of the Transitional Sovereignty Council, Gen. Shams-Eddin Kabbashi, received in his office at the Republican Palace the Head of United Nations Integrated Transition Assistance Mission in Sudan (UNITAMS), Volker Perthes, and discussed a number of the transition issues, top of them are the outstanding issues between the partners in government, the issue of east Sudan and formulation of the constitution.
In a press statement after the meeting, Volker has stressed the importance of preserving the partnership between the military and civilian components and the armed struggle organizations that have signed the peace agreement.
He called on all parties to alleviate the level of escalation and to focus on the important issues in the remainder of the transitional period.
He also affirmed the importance of the parties’ return to the dialogue table and the agree on a road-map on the strategic issues for the next stage.
Volker has affirmed the United Nations’ readiness to contribute to solution of east Sudan issue by providing economic and developmental support to east Sudan, indicating that east Sudan has “suffered from marginalization for a long time”.
He stressed the importance of finding an urgent solution that meets the demands of the East through a comprehensive dialogue that includes all stake-holders, calling for avoiding the actions that would harm the national economy.
