Khartoum, Oct.13 (SUNA) - University of Khartoum signed today in Khartoum a Memorandum of Understanding with United Nations Integrated Transition Assistance Mission in Sudan (UNITAMS).

Vice Chancellor Prof. Fadwa Abdel Rahman Ali Taha signed for the University of Khartoum while Head of UNITAMS and Special Envoy of Secretary General of United Nations Dr. Volker Perthes signed for the mission.

The signing ceremony was attended by Secretary of Scientific Affairs at the University Prof. Bashir Osman, the   Undersecretary Dr. Ahmed Hamad Ibrahim, Director of Foreign Relations Dr. Nazik Al-Fadil and Deputy Director for Peace Research Institute Dr. Tamir Mohamed Ahmed besides a group  of senior advisers  at  the mission.

Prof. Fadwa welcomed the head of the mission and his accompanying delegation affirming, that the university looks forward to narrow gap of differences on transitional period issues.

On his part Dr. Perthes expressed hope that Sudan could overcome transition challenges.

The memorandum of understanding, stipulates cooperation on issues of mutual concern, boosting effective efforts   in development process, assisting patriotic efforts and transitional government to reach tangible peaceful transition and maintain democratic rule, besides the participation of experts to boost Knowledge and achieve activities, of mutual concern.

The memorandum stresses,   the importance of cooperation to support policies and implementation of peace, protection of civilians, electoral support, offers political advisory, provides assistance in developing management, peace building and strengthening media sector.
