Khartoum, Jan. 3 (SUNA) – The President of the Transitional Sovereignty Council and General Commander of the Armed Forces, Gen. Abdul-Fattah A-Burhan, has stressed the importance of the formation of an independent government of competencies with specific tasks to be agreed upon by all the Sudanese people in the current historical circumstance that the country is going through.

In his address to officers of the Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces at the ranks of brigadier and above at the Armed Forces’ General Command on Monday, he affirmed the need to achieve the tasks of the transitional period for realizing peace, establishing security, addressing the issues of people's livelihood and holding the elections, emphasizing that achieving these goals requires the cohesion of the Sudanese people in order to uphold the higher interests of the nation and to keep away from narrow partisan interests.

He stressed that the Armed Forces is the safety valve of the nation and will remain cohesive, guarding the country’s soil and security, and will protect the democratic transition toward achieving free and fair elections that satisfy the aspirations of all Sudanese people.

The briefing was attended by the Chief of Staff and his deputies, the commanders of the Armed Forces’ corps, the Commander of the Intelligence and commanders of the branches.
