Khartoum, Jan. 10 (SUNA) - Member of the Transitional Sovereignty Council (TSC) Dr. Al-Hadi Idris received at his office in the Republican Palace today the British Ambassador to Sudan, Mr Giles Lever.

The meeting touched on the current situation in the country and the initiative of the United Nations Integrated Transition Assistance Mission in Sudan (UNITAMS), as well as the situation in Darfur in light of recent events in the region.

The TSC Member affirmed that the government, at the central and state levels, had taken some measures and procedures that would stop violence in the region, pointing to the formation of the joint force to protect civilians in Darfur, which would contribute to limiting such events in the future.

For his part, the British Ambassador announced his country's support for the UN initiative, stressing that Britain will work with its partners at the regional and international levels to help the Sudanese reach a political consensus conducive to forming a government and preparing the environment for elections and a democratic transition.
