Khartoum, Jan.13 (SUNA) - The Special Envoy of the Secretary General to Sudan and Head of the UN Integrated Transition Support Mission in Sudan (UNITAMS) Volker Perthes has, yesterday, briefed the members of the Security Council on the United Nations initiative for dialogue and support for the democratic transition in Sudan. Volcker noted that the UN will work with all components of the Sudanese people to develop a process that leads to consensus and avoids the country sliding into chaos. He added that he is counting on the cooperation of all parties to reach a national accord that will pave the way for democratic transformation in Sudan. The UN Security Council held, yesterday Wednesday, an informal meeting to discuss the latest developments in Sudan, and during which the UN introduced his briefing about Sudan this meeting. The meeting requested by Six of the 15 council member , the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Norway, Ireland and Albania which was held behind closed doors has demanded the abolition of the state of emergency in Sudan. ta
