Khartoum, Jan. 22 (SUNA) - The members of the Transitional Sovereignty Council, Dr. Al-Hadi Idris, Malik Aggar and Al-Taher Hajar met in a joint meeting on Saturday with the Special Envoy of the Kingdom of Norway for Sudan and South Sudan, Dr. Endre Stiansen.
The Norwegian special envoy for Sudan and South Sudan said, in a press statement, that he briefed the members of the Sovereign Council on the outcomes of the Friends of Sudan Conference, which was held recently in the Saudi capital, Riyadh, in addition to the results of his visit to the Arab Republic of Egypt.
He indicated that the meeting reviewed the security situation in the Darfur region on the background of the recent events in some areas, and stressed the importance of taking the required measures for the violent incidents in the region.
Dr. Andre Stiansen said that the meeting also touched on the current political situation in Sudan, pointing out that everyone agreed that the way out of the current crisis will only take place through a comprehensive dialogue without exclusion to restore the transitional path, resume the process of democratic transition and reaching elections at the end of the transitional period.
The Norwegian envoy stressed the importance of support to the current dialogue process facilitated by the United Nations Integrated Transition Assistance Mission in Sudan (UNITAMS) through its support for various national initiatives, stressing Norway's support for the Sudanese dialogue, and its readiness, in cooperation with partners, to support the transitional period through a package of development projects.
