Khartoum, June 2 (SUNA) - The UN has called for the direct dialogue that it intends to facilitate between the Sudanese parties during the next week to be a comprehensive dialogue in which the Sudanese will cooperate in order to reach a transition that leads to civil rule, peace and elections in the country.

This came after a meeting of the Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary General for Sudan and Head of UNITAMS, Mr. Volker Perthes, with South Sudan Presidential Adviser Mr. Tut Gatluak, the head of South Sudan mediation to resolve the Sudanese crisis, today at Al-Salam Hotel here, with the participation of the members of the tripartite mechanism of the United Nations, the African Union (AU) and IGAD.

In a press statement after the meeting, Gatluak said that they discussed with the tripartite mechanism the situation in Sudan, where the mechanism and the initiative of South Sudan affirmed their readiness to support Sudan and achieve stability in it.

Gatluak indicated that they affirmed importance of supporting holding of a comprehensive conference for the people of Sudan to resolve the Sudanese crisis in order to return the country to its normal situation and bring it to safety.

He expressed thanks to the tripartite mechanism for the efforts made to find solutions to the challenges facing Sudan.

Head of UNITAMS, Mr. Volker Perthes, representing the tripartite mechanism, stressed in a statement after the same meeting that the dialogue should be comprehensive and inclusive.

He said that the tripartite mechanism, South Sudan and some friends abroad will do everything to be a comprehensive, practical and successful dialogue, declaring that direct talks between the Sudanese will start next week.

The UN official pointed out that time is short and that Sudan is going through a difficult stage in which it needs a lot of confidence-building and goodwill from the Sudanese to find the most effective way to get Sudan out of this crisis.

He explained that they want to help Sudan find a way to return to a period of peaceful transition with civilian rule, stressing that they have been in the mechanism urging the Sudanese government to create an environment conducive to conducting these talks.

Mr. Perthes described the decision to lift the state of emergency taken by the Sudanese government as a serious step that must be translated into a real dialogue that the tripartite mechanism will facilitate in direct meetings between the Sudanese.
