Khartoum, July 13 (SUNA) – The Director General of Sudan Railways Authority, Engineer  Walid Mahmud Ahmed, has announced arrival  of first batch of 21 new locomotives out of 34 ones from China, on July 20.

Engineer Ahmed said in statement to SUNA that all arrangement have been completed to receive the locomotives, pointing out that 15 Chinese engineers and technicians have arrived from the manufacturer with the locomotives to cover the warranty period, which is two years, where the trial run will be carried out immediately after its arrival, and that the ship carrying the locomotives would arrive at Port Sudan harbor on July 24.

He pointed out that arrival of these locomotives will bring about a major shift in the railways’ performance, stressing that the new locomotives were manufactured with modern technological specifications from CRRC Ziang Company, which was awarded the bid to supply 34 locomotives.

He said that the new locomotives have great design capacities for transportation that will contribute to the country's transport operations, indicating that the authority has drawn up work plans to receive these locomotives for transportation at the strategic and vital sectors for transporting furnace to thermal power stations, in addition to transporting strategic goods such as wheat, sugar, agricultural inputs, and fertilizers.
