White Nile State Aims to Cultivate 3.35 Million Acres
Kosti. July 20 (SUNA) – The acting Minister and General Director of the Ministry of Production and Economic Resources, Engineer Al-Saddiq Mohamed Osman, announced that his ministry aims to cultivate an area of 3.35 million feddans (acres) in the current summer season.
At a meeting of the technical committee for the summer agricultural season in his office Wednesday, Engineer Al-Saddiq stated that 91% of the targeted areas will be cultivated at the rain-fed sector, 56% of which will be cultivated with sorghum.
He said that the combat of pesticides is progressing well, indicating that the cultivation season is facing a number of challenges, including the delay in finance by the Agricultural Bank, the high prices of the agricultural inputs and withdraw of a number if investment companies from funding.
He pointed out that the meeting discussed all aspects of the arrangements for the agricultural season.
