Addis Ababa, July 20 (SUNA) -The 14th meeting of IGAD Drought Disaster Resilience Sustainability Initiative  was kicked off on Wednesday at the capital Ethiopia, Addis Ababa, chaired by Sudan and with participation of representatives of the IGAD member states. 

The meeting discussed performance reports of the member states which reviewed the consequences of drought and other factors that cause the lack of food security in the region.  

Addressing the meeting, the executive secretary of IGAD, Workneh Gebeyehu, declared the launch of the review of the half of the 15 years of the IDDRSI toward the enhancing and improvement.

The review will also take in consideration the current challenges, such as Covid 19, locust and the drought.

It is worth noting that the meeting will last until Thursday prior to the General Assembly of IGAD countries on the initiative to combat drought, scheduled on Friday in the presence of the Ministers of Agriculture of the IGAD’s member states.

The General Assembly of IGAD is concerned with the capability and sustainability to address the drought disasters in the region.
