Khartoum, July 25 (SUNA) - The General Secretariate of the Arab League has approved the food security initiative of Sudan, in the extraordinary session of the Social Economic Council, which was held in the headquarters of the Arab League in Cairo.

In a statement to SUNA upon return home, the acting Minister of Agriculture and Forestry, Dr. Abu-Bakr Omer Al-Bushra, disclosed that the food security initiative of Sudan was ratified in the meeting which results in a full finance to all the food security projects in Sudan.

Al-Bushra pointed out that his ministry has worked out an urgent project to support the growing one million acres with wheat in the winter season and establishing a separated fund to meet the inputs of the season, adding that the General Secretariat of the Arab Authority also promised to donate 500,000 dollars for the fund, while the Arab League pledged to extend urgent support of 500,000 and the Arab Organization for Agricultural Development promised to donate 200,000 dollars as a first installment.

In the same context, the National bank assigned 1,5 million dollars to support the projects of the food security,

He said that Canada was elected as the head of agricultural committee in the 29th session, and that Sudan was elected to represent the Near East and North Africa, indicating that Australia was elected to represent South West the Pacific Ocean.
