Khartoum, Aug. 1 (SUNA) – The court trying the case on assassination of martyr Mahgoub Al-Taj. Chaired by Judge Zuhair Babiker Abdul-Raziq, Monday resumed its sittings and heard two defence witnesses.

The first defence witness, the Vice - Chancellor of Al-Razi University, Dr. Ahmed Riziq, said before the court that the university decided that education will be suspended on the day of the event, January 24, 2019, but the students have gathered after leaving the university shouting slogans, then a pick-up car with three civilians confronted them and a clash occurred, then other vehicles Land Cruiser pick-up vehicles came and clashed with the students for only seven minutes.

He stated that the university administration then managed to evict the students by buses and no information about the arrest, injury or martyrdom of any student was received, adding that at 05: 00 p.m. he learned about injury of a student who was receiving treatment at Al-Amal Hospital.

The Vice – Chancellor of Al-Razi University explained that two prosecutors arrived at the university two weeks after the incident to investigate the incident, stressing that there is no coordination between the university administration and the security forces.

In the same context, the second defence witness, the captain at the Public Security Service, Amin Ismail Al-Amin, who works in the Political Department, the Student Security Section, said that he was present at Al-Razi University on January 24, 2019 and that the summary of the report prepared by his department on that day stated that a demonstration took place at the university in which a number of students have participated and that It was contained by the Police Forces and the Operations Department forces, adding that he did not see the martyr or his injury.

The court has set August 15 as a date to continue hearing the other defence witnesses in the case.
