Khartoum, Aug. 23 (SUNA) - Member of the Transitional Sovereignty Council Gen, Shams-Eddin Kabbashi discussed during his meeting today at the Republican Palace with the British Ambassador to Khartoum Mr. Giles Lever, the course of bilateral relations between the two countries and the political issues in the transitional period.

The Director of the European Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Khaled Moussa, said in a press statement after the meeting that the two sides agreed on the necessity of continuing and resuming development aid and the mechanism of strategic dialogue between the two countries, as well as providing humanitarian aid to those affected by torrential rains and floods.

With regard to the political aspect, Ambassador Moussa affirmed the congruence of the two sides' views to support the transitional process and the continuation of political dialogue between all political parties, leading to political consensus, and holding free and fair elections under international monitoring, at the end of the transitional period that are accepted by the Sudanese people.

The Director of the European Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that the two sides expressed their optimism about the political process through the proposed initiatives and the importance of creating a consensus that leads to a civilian government that assumes the responsibilities of the transitional period.
