Khartoum, September 20 (SUNA) - The Chairman of the Transitional Sovereignty Council (TSC), Lt-Gen. Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan has stressed the need to upgrade and develop the telecommunications sector and digital transformation due to its importance in advancing the economy and combating crime and corruption. Al-Burhan, in a meeting at his office Tuesday with the Acting Minister of Communications and Digital Transformation, Adil Hassan, stressed the need to upgrade this sector to keep pace with the rapid developments in communication and information technology, in addition to working to develop the postal sector and restore its leadership to keep pace with the major transformations in the field of postal services. The Chairman of the Sovereignty Council lauded the ministry’s plan to expand and improve telecommunications services to include displacement and production areas, particularly in the field of banking services, giving directives on the necessity to work on securing networks from any penetration or cyber attacks. For his part, Hassan explained, in a press statement, that the ministry has prepared an ambitious plan to promote the telecommunications and postal sector, enabling it to play its role in the field of modern digital technologies and expand communication networks, revealing that a higher council for digital transformation would be established headed by the Minister of the Ministry of Cabinet and membership of the Ministers of Finance, Interior, Communications, and Justice as well as the Governor of the Central Bank of Sudan, in order to supervise the digital transformation processes due to their importance in building a digital economy and e-government services to ease accessibility from anywhere. The minister pointed out that his ministry, in its various sectors, has been working in accordance with a precise system, databases and performance standards to control and increase efficiency in the field of modern digital technologies and communications.
