Khartoum, Nov. 23 (SUNA) - Minister of Defense, Lieutenant General Yassin Ibrahim Yassin, received in his office this morning, in the presence of the Secretary General of the Ministry, Lieutenant General Essam El Din Karrar, and the Adviser to the Minister of Defense for Aviation Affairs, Major General (Pilot) Mohi El Din Abkar, received the delegation of the Regional Office of the Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), headed by Mr. Mohamed Abu Baker Farea, Director of the Regional Office, Mr. Mashhoor Al-Balawi, the regional official for safety, and Mr. Hussein Qabbani, the regional official for security, welcoming the visit of the delegation to the country.

The Minister of Defense affirmed his appreciation and thanks to the (ICAO) for its active role in enhancing the security and safety of global aviation and supporting regional and international cooperation.

He asserted during the meeting the state's continued support to enhance the security, safety and environment of international aviation, the development of the air transport industry, the fulfillment of its responsibilities in all fields of aviation, and the support for all initiatives of the (ICAO) in enhancing joint cooperation in the field of civil aviation between the Sudan’s Civil Aviation Authority and the (ICAO).

The Minister of Defense said: "We affirm our support for the agreement signed between the Secretary-General of the (ICAO) and the Director-General of the Sudan’s Civil Aviation Authority, Fakhruddin Osman Ahmed Mahdi, to support Sudan with experts in the eight areas of audit, which reflects Sudan's seriousness in raising level of safety and security to fulfill its international obligations.".

He expressed hope that the mission of the regional office and the technical support office of the (ICAO) would contribute to supporting the Civil Aviation Authority with the necessary knowledge to achieve safety and security requirements and implement the agreement signed between them.

He indicated hope that the team of experts from the (ICAO) with the Sudan’s Civil Aviation Authority to develop an action map to identify deficiencies and develop a plan for development in order to improve Sudan's position in the field of aviation safety and security.
