Khartoum, Nov. 23 (SUNA) - Member of the Transitional Sovereignty Council, Al-Taher Abu-Bakr Hajar, met Wednesday at the Republican Palace with a delegation of United Nations experts for following up the movement of forces and the arms ban in Darfur.

The meeting touched on the role of the United Nations towards support to the peace and stability process in Sudan and achieving the requirements of the next stage.

The member of the Sovereignty Council stressed the importance of completing implementation the Juba Agreement for the Peace in Sudan, due to comprehensiveness of the issues that it included, pointing to the need to overcome the challenges facing the implementation of the agreement.

He welcomed the delegation's visit to Sudan, affirming the government cooperation to facilitate its mission, stressing the Security Council resolution (1591) for support and achieving stability in Darfur region.

He said that there is an urgent need for support to the peace operations, especially regarding the human development issues in Darfur.

It is to be noted that the UN Security Council’s resolution (1591), under Chapter VII of the Charter of the United Nations, in March 2005, dealt with formation of the committee of experts to supervise implementation of the resolution, whose mission, among a number of tasks, is to supervise the ban of weapons in Darfur.
