Khartoum, Nov. 27 (SUNA) - The Minister of Animal Resources, Hafez Ibrahim Abdel Nabi, met today with the Director-General of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), Mr. Qu Dongyu, on the sidelines of the Third High-level Global Ministerial Conference on Antimicrobial Resistance in the Sultanate of Oman, and discussed with him ways of the organization support to Sudan, especially in the field of developing the livestock sector.
Mr. Qu Dongyu, expressed his support for the ministry's plans and his full support for consolidating cooperation with Sudan.
The Minister affirmed the government's desire to expand its partnership with the organization by strengthening the areas of programmatic and technical support through the organization's office in Sudan, stressing the need to move forward with the South-South Partnership and Cooperation project.
Minister of Animal Resources, Hafez Ibrahim also met Dr. Monique Eloa, Director General of the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE).
Dr. Monique emphasized Sudan's assistance in implementing the organization's international standards, in a way that ensures strengthening the capabilities of veterinary services in controlling and combating animal diseases, especially transboundary diseases, through its support for the rapid elimination of major diseases within the organization's mechanism (the gradual control path), and raising the level of national laboratories in Sudan, supporting the establishment of reference laboratories, and documenting work with regional committees, for the Sudan's advanced position in the livestock sector.
On his part, the Minister of Animal Resources expressed appreciation to the World Organization for Animal Health and Sudan's constant keenness to support the international efforts of the organization and work with it on various issues that would achieve sustainable development in the animal resources sector.
