Juba, Jan. 21 (SUNA) - Meetings of the 20th session of the Joint Political and Security Mechanism between Sudan and South Sudan State were held in Juba during the period January 17 - 20, where the Sudanese side was chaired by the Minister of Defense, Lieutenant General Yassin Ibrahim Yassin, and the side of South Sudan State, was headed by the Minister of Defence and Veterans Affairs, Mrs. Angelina Ting,  with the participation of the Interior Ministers the two countries and representatives of the concerned political and security institutions.

 The meetings discussed ways tore activate the cooperation agreements signed between the two countries since September 2012, especially in the fields of oil, trade, customs cooperation, and border crossings.

The joint mechanism decided opening the Kosti river crossing and directed the ministries of interior in the two countries to make the necessary arrangements for that, in addition to studying means to facilitate the movement of citizens of the two countries through the system of the four freedoms.

The two parties also discussed the directives issued by the presidential meeting on January 12, 2023, to put them into practice such as the issue of forming joint forces on the borders between the two countries.

The meeting reviewed two reports from the United Nations Mission in Abyei (UNISFA) and the security mechanism for verification and border control, where the two sides praised the efforts of the two missions and affirmed their keenness to cooperate with them for the sake of safe borders that motivate the citizens on both sides to exchange benefits and live together.

On the sidelines of the visit, the Minister of Defence and the accompanying delegation met with the President's Advisor for Security Affairs, Tut Galwak, who welcomed the delegation prior to the start of the joint mechanism meetings.

After the conclusion of the session, the President of the Republic of South Sudan, Salva Kiir Mayardit, received in his office His the Minister of Defence, Lieutenant General Yassin Ibrahim, and the accompanying delegation, in the presence of the Minister of Defence of South Sudan, where the two ministers gave an explanation of the work and decisions of the mechanism’s session, pointing to the mechanism’s commitment to the directives issued by the summit of the presidents of the two countries, which was held on January 12, in Juba,
