Kassala, Feb. 8 (SUNA) – The Director General of Kassala’s state Ministry of Production and Economic Resources, the state’s governor representative, Dr. Khedr Ramadan,  accompanied by the Italian Ambassador to Khartoum, Michel Tomasi, inaugurated in the West Gash market in Kassala the vegetable and fruit refrigerator implemented by the United Nations Industrial Decelopment Organization (UNIDO) with a capacity of (85) tons.

The inauguration comes in framework of the project to alleviate poverty in the states of Kassala and the Red Sea by promoting comprehensive economic growth through the development of agricultural value chains and access to financial services.

During his visit to Kassala state the Italian Ambassador was accompanied by the Country Director of the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation in Khartoum and the Director of the Agency in Geneva, as well as the Country Director of the (UNIDO) and the representative of the Ministry of Industry, Lamia Al-Nour.

The representative of the state’s governor appreciated the Italian aid efforts and the partnership with UNIDO, pointing to its support many service projects in the health sector and farmers in the production process in the state, and the UNIDO training of a number of young men and women in the fields of production, the implementation of sesame sifting in New Halfa locality in cooperation with farmers fo the rain and flood sectors through the Federation of Cooperative Societies.

He pointed out to the impact of the UNIDO projects in Kassala state, calling for the establishment of a true partnership between Sudan and Italy in projects of ownership of production means and the provision of financial support for projects to supply Italy and other European Union countries with agricultural products, vegetables and fruits and cover their food security needs in light of the world climatic, political and economic changes.

The representative of the vegetable and fruit producers, Awad Abu Al-Tom,  expressed pleasur over partnership between the producers and UNIDO, pointing to some demands from the Italian government through the UNIDO that serves the state;s farmers' issues.

The Italian ambassador who accompanied by the representative of the governor of Kassala and a number of state leaders, toured the West Gash market for vegetables and fruits, pointed to the projects implemented by the Italian government in the state of Kassala in the fields of health and agriculture as major areas supported by Italy, he promised to provide Italian aid to contribute to the state in this aspect, praising the cooperation with UNIDO and the work done in the state within the framework of partnership with Italian aid in Sudan and a number of countries, as well as tangible cooperation with the government of Kassala state to implement various projects.
