Khartoum, Mar. 15 (SUNA) – The workshop for the enlightenment of the states’ governor on the Sustainable Solutions for Displacement initiative in Sudan and South Sudan, inaugurated today in Khartoum in the presence of Lieutenant General Mohammed Al-Ghali Ali Youssef, Secretary-General of the Transitional Sovereignty  Council and Head of the National Mechanism to Support IGAD.

The Secretary-General of the Ministry of Defense and IGAD’s envoy to the Sustainable Solutions Initiative, Lieutenant General Issam Karrar, who addressed the opening of the workshop, and presented  highlights on Sudan’s road map for IGAD’s presidency for the year 2023, has affirmed Sudan’s commitment to the success of the initiative, indicating the Sudan’s serious endeavor to strengthen relations with the brothers in southern Sudan, and its readiness, as head of the current IGAD’s current session, to enhance regional integration, and more cooperation between IGAD and High Commission for Refugees.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Governor of Darfur region, Mohammed Issa Aliwa, Counselor Abdullah Al-Tom, representative of the Federal Minister of Governance, and Dr. Zuhal Al-Saeed, Rapporteur of the National Mechanism for Supporting IGAD addressed the participant in the workshop.

It is worth noting that the workshop is the first of its kind, which comes in framework of promotional program of the initiative at the national level, in which the governor of Khartoum state, governors of the targeted states, Darfur five states, the states of Kassala, Gedaref, Blue Nile, South Kordofan, West Kordofan, Khartoum and the White Nile, with the participation of the Humanitarian Aid Commissioner, states governors’ assistants, while a series of workshops will be organized in the targeted states during the coming period, with the participation of a wide range of relevant stakeholders from national institutions, displaced persons, refugees, returnees and host communities.
