
Khartoum, March 16 (SUNA) - The Higher National Committee on the United Nations held a meeting today at the Republican Palace, chaired by Member of the Transitional Sovereignty Council (TSC), Lieutenant General Ibrahim Jabir.
The meeting discussed the report of the UN Secretary-General on the situation in Sudan and the activities of the UN Integrated Transition Assistance Mission in Sudan (UNITAMS), in addition to Security Council Resolution No. 2676 on the sanctions stipulated by Security Council resolution No. 1591 for the year 2005 besides Sudan's participation in the meetings of the 52nd regular session of the Human Rights Council in Geneva.
Ambassador Mohamed Saeed Hassan, the Head of the Peace and Humanitarian Affairs Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said in a press statement that the meeting dealt with the axes of the periodic report of the UN secretary-general on the political, economic, social, humanitarian and security situation in Sudan and the level of implementation of the UNITAMS’ mandate indicating that the meeting made some remarks on some aspects of the report, focusing on the implementation of the matrix of transition requirements and Sudan's priorities in this regard.
Ambassador Hassan added that the meeting also discussed the content of Security Council Resolution No. 2676 issued on 8 March 2023 and the positive development in it of setting a time limit for the sanctions established in accordance with resolution 1591 of 2005, compared to previous resolutions on the same regard.
The meeting voiced thanks to all member states of the Security Council that supported Sudan’s position.
On participation of the Sudan's delegation in the activities of the 52nd session of the Human Rights Council in Geneva and what happened in the special session on Sudan on the third of March, which included an oral update and an interactive dialogue, the meeting praised the support Sudan received from the member states of the Council of brotherly and friendly countries
The Director of the Department of Peace and Humanitarian Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that the meeting came out with a number of recommendations on the issues discussed.
