Khartoum, March 17 (SUNA)- The Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs Ambassador Ali Al-Sadiq Ali , headed the Sudan’s delegation participated in the 49th session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) held  during March 16 and 17 in Nouakchott, Mauritania, under the theme: "Centrism and moderation: the valve of security and stability",

Addressing  opening session, His Excellency the President of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania, Mohamed Ould Cheikh Ghazouani , stressed the importance of embodying and strengthening the values of tolerance, moderation and Centrism in the Islamic world and referred to the aspirations of Mauritania during its presidency of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers to push ahead the efforts of the organization in various fields.

The Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Hussein Ibrahim Taha, also addressed the conferees, wishing a success to the meeting which discussed many topics of strategic importance aimed at elevating the Islamic nation, top of  which,  the Palestinian issue and the recent developments in Al-Quds Al-Sharif.

The  deliberations focused on several draft resolutions, which included political, Humanitarian Affairs, Muslim minorities in member and non-member states, the organization's action program up to the year2025, media and legal affairs in addition to constituent and organizational issues as well as holding of a session on countering violent extremism and a special session to discuss efforts being exerted to combat Islamophobia.

The efforts of the Sudanese diplomacy culminated in the restoration of confidence and the renewal of the election of Ambassador Dr. Tarig Ali Bakheet, as the OIC Assistant Secretary-General for Humanitarian, Cultural and Social Affairs for a new term.
